(AP) The Navy has reached a $1.2 billion agreement with Seven Oakes, Pacific’s largest private employer, to create a new maritime supply route to support the fishery.
The Pacific Maritime Association says the new route will bring the fisheries to the West Coast and provide more opportunities for business, tourism and recreation in the region.
The company says it will contribute $250 million over the next five years to improve and expand the fisherys shipping routes and operations.
The new maritime route is expected to create hundreds of jobs, according to the Pacific Association.
Seven Okes said the project would help it expand and modernize its fleet and to attract and retain new talent.
The U.S. Navy is expected this summer to announce its new Pacific fleet, which will replace the aging ships currently in service.
